The Chancellor of the Exchequer will today present his Autumn Budget.

The Welsh Government has called consistently for an end to the UK Government’s failed policy of austerity.  Now is the time for the UK Government to provide the much-needed funding boost for public services and to start to repair the damage inflicted by nearly a decade of cuts.

We cautiously welcome the recent indication by the Prime Minister that austerity is coming to an end and look forward to seeing evidence of this in today’s Budget.

Announcements by the UK Government are not always straightforward.  We will need to look beyond the headlines in today’s Budget and review the suite of information published by the UK Government to understand the full implications for Wales.

I will provide a further written statement tomorrow, once the full details are clearer.
