As part of the implementation of Part 2 (Homelessness) of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, the Welsh Government is increasing the amount of transitional funding for Local Authorities this financial year.

An additional sum of £700,000 is being made available, supplementing the £4.9 million already allocated to Local Authorities.

£500,000 of the additional funding is to help Local Authorities further develop their approach to preventing homelessness. This demonstrates the Welsh Government’s commitment to helping Authorities to implement the new legislation and to develop the prevention services required as a result of the Act.

The remaining £200,000 will enable Local Authorities to do more to prevent former prisoners becoming homeless after release.

I want all Local Authorities to play a full part in meeting the challenges of this transitional period which will result in more help for people who are either homeless or threatened with homelessness.
