The Wales and Africa programme supports people in Wales to take action on poverty in Africa.

Wales and Africa funds and builds projects that support learning, the exchange of skills, joint working and tackling climate change.

The programme supports the following projects and organisations:

Wales and Africa Grant Scheme

This grant scheme provides funding for small-scale Wales-Africa projects. Community groups and organisations in Wales can apply.

Supported projects fall under 4 themes:

  • health
  • sustainable livelihoods
  • lifelong learning
  • climate change and the environment

The scheme is managed by the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA). For more information, including how to apply, see WCVA.

Hub Cymru Africa

Hub Cymru Africa provides guidance on fundraising for small-scale projects based in Africa. Information and training is available to community groups and organisations.

It also provides advice for those working on international development in Wales.

Size of Wales

Size of Wales campaigns to protect an area of rainforest twice the size of Wales.

Mbale Trees is a project supported by Size of Wales and has distributed over 9 million trees. This includes one for every child born or adopted in Wales, as part of the Welsh Government’s PLANT! Wales scheme.

Fair Trade Wales

Fair Trade Wales supports and develops fair trade activity in Wales.

Fair Trade Wales also works to promote the uptake of Fairtrade products in Wales.
