In 2020 we began our commitment to developing a National Forest for Wales. Our aim is to form a network of connected woodlands stretching the length and breadth of Wales. We brought the first woodland sites into the network. These woodlands are part of our Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE). Natural Resources Wales manage and maintain them.

In 2023 we launched the National Forest Status Scheme. This enabled woodland sites outside our estate to join the National Forest. The first 15 private woodlands entered the network in November 2023.

The National Forest continues to grow. The network currently consists of over 100 woodland sites. You can see the sites listed below. Most have websites which provide information about the woodland and how to get there.
