What we did

We are made improvements to the station, including:

  • reconfigured station facilities 
  • refurbished ticket office, including new waiting areas, customer information and accessible facilities 
  • refurbished toilets
  • new lighting, flooring, heating, power, ventilation, CCTV and customer information system 
  • improved platform surfaces
  • improved platform access by refurbishing the footbridge
  • improved entrance canopy and repaired the canopy columns
  • refurbished lift (funded by Network Rail).

Why we are doing it

While we are funded through the UK government’s National Station Improvement Project to improve stations, this is at a low level. We wanted to bring forward the improvement of various stations and received ERDF funding to do this. ERDF funding has provided £16m towards the £22m project to improve Aberystwyth, Ystrad Mynach, Port Talbot, Pontypridd and Rhyl stations.
