We are funding new services on the Cambrian lines to improve rail travel in mid Wales.

Project status: in progress
Start date: May 2015
End date: 2018

What we are doing

We are providing extra services between:

  • Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury
  • Aberystwyth and Pwllheli
  • Llandovery and Gowerton/Swansea
  • Llandrindod and Shrewsbury/Crewe.

We will evaluate these services over 3 years.

For full timetables see the Cambrian Lines website (external link).

Why we are doing it

The Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth Railway Committee and the Heart of Wales Line Forums provided us with reports on how to improve rail services in mid Wales. The Cambrian Railway Implementation Group reviewed these reports. This helped us to decide onthe service changes. The reports can be found below.

In January 2016 we published the latest rail demand survey report on the Cambrian Railways, demonstrating the popularity of the additional services.
