Moving goods by rail is more sustainable than road.

There are 2 types of funding available to help companies transport goods by rail.

Rail Freight Facilities Grant

This is a Welsh Government grant to help companies with the capital costs of rail freight facilities.

This can be used to help cover the costs associated with developing dedicated rail freight handling facilities. It can also be used to reinvest in existing facilities.

Mode Shift Revenue Support

Mode Shift Revenue Support (MSRS) is a grant scheme administered by the Department for Transport. We provide a financial contribution towards this grant, for freight journeys within Wales.

The scheme helps companies with the operating costs associated with transporting freight using rail instead of road. The scheme covers:

  • the movement of intermodal containers by rail
  • bulk freight movements by rail.

You can find out more about this grant on the Gov.UK website.
