Manual for Streets

Manual for Streets provides guidance for practitioners involved in the planning, design, provision and approval of new residential streets, and modifications to existing ones.

Manual for Streets aims to increase quality of life through good design, which creates more people orientated streets. A companion guide, Manual for Streets 2, extends its practices beyond residential streets to encompass both urban and rural situations. It is intended to assist those in the planning, construction and improvement of our streets to deliver more contextually sensitive designs.

Manual for Streets is a joint Department for Transport, Department for Communities and Local Government and Welsh Government publication.

Manual for Streets can be viewed on the UK Government website.

Manual for Streets 2 can be purchased from the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
