This letter concerns an amendment to the General Permitted Development Order (GPDO), which has the effect of extending the period of time fixed line broadband apparatus within Article 1(5) land (protected land) is exempt from prior approval.

The amendment relates to paragraph A.2 (4A) of Part 24 of the GPDO. The change has the effect of extending the date which prior approval is not required for fixed line broadband apparatus, such as cabinets, telegraph poles and lines, from 30 May 2018 to the 30 May 2019.

The prior approval provision was introduced in 2014 to support the Superfast Cymru initiative and is due to expire on the 30 May 2018.  However, although Superfast Cymru has ended, the need to continue broadband rollout remains, and  we are seeking to establish a new initiative to carry on the progress already made.

The change will come in to force on 30 May 2018.
