We commissioned a report from an Independent Advisory Group, chaired by the former Director of the Planning Inspectorate in Wales, on the future delivery of planning services in Wales.

This report gathered evidence on how best to allocate future roles and responsibilities in the planning system. This will help us ensure that our policies are delivered in a timely, transparent and democratically accountable way taking into account the demands being placed on the system. The review has:

  • identified the key policy objectives that the planning system is required to deliver now and in the future
  • assessed existing institutional delivery arrangements, noting areas of good practice and areas in need of improvement
  • proposed 97 recommendations to improve the future delivery of the planning system in Wales.
