The #TalkParenting survey ran from 2 October 2017 to 24 November 2017.

The survey was an informal mechanism to get the conversation started about people’s practical understanding of the current law on the physical punishment of children, and their thoughts about the Welsh Government’s proposal to bring in legislation to prohibit physical punishment by parents, carers and guardians. The overarching objective of the proposed legislation is to support children’s rights, in line with the Welsh Government’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

#TalkParenting was also used to facilitate an online conversation about the proposal.

The informal #TalkParenting conversation has now been followed by a formal consultation on the proposal to prohibit physical punishment of children by removing the defence of reasonable punishment, and the results of the consultation will be published.
