The responsibility for fire and rescue services is devolved in Wales.

Since devolution in 2004, there has been a reduction of over 50% in fires and fire-related casualties.

Fire and Rescue Authorities (FRAs) provide these services.

FRAs work within a policy and legal framework which the Welsh Government sets. More details of this are in the National Framework for Fire and Rescue Services.

Responding to emergencies is at the core of the Service’s work, particularly fires, flooding/ water incidents and road traffic collisions. However there are also other emergencies to which they will respond including rail or air crashes, building collapses or chemical incidents.

If you want to contact the Welsh Government on fire policy issues, you can do so by email.
