Evaluation of Rent Smart Wales

Rent Smart Wales logo

We have appointed an independent organisation to evaluate the implementation of Rent Smart Wales over the next three years.

With the launch of Rent Smart Wales in November 2015, the implementation of Part 1 of the Housing Act (Wales) 2014 is well underway. Effective implementation is vital and with this in mind, we have appointed the independent organisation Public and Corporate Economic Consultants (PACEC) to evaluate the implementation of the scheme over the next three years.

It is essential the evaluation gathers and makes use of the views of all involved, particularly landlords, lettings agents and tenants, to understand progress and matters relevant to the practical implementation of the Act.

What will the research involve?

Landlords, letting agents and tenants in the private rented sector will be contacted by PACEC and asked to take part in the evaluation. In practice this will involve either surveys, interviews or focus groups. Local Authorities and other stakeholders will also be asked to contribute their views on the implementation and impact of Rent Smart Wales.

The evaluation will take place over a total of 18 months. The first wave of research will be undertaken within the first six months or so of the scheme being launched. The fieldwork will then be repeated some months later to determine whether experiences, and therefore the impact of the scheme, is changing over time.

Is the information I give confidential?

Yes. All responses to the survey will be treated confidentially. The resulting report will not identify any individuals or their comments.
The evaluation provides the opportunity for those living and working in the private rented sector in Wales to tell us about their experiences of the scheme. We are grateful to those who are able to contribute.

If you have any questions regarding the evaluation, please contact Lucie Griffiths
