Information on Cross-Border Healthcare for the NHS in England and Wales

To make it easier for people living on the English/Welsh border to understand how they can use health services, the governments and respective NHS bodies have agreed new guidance. The 'England – Wales cross-border healthcare services: Statement of values and principles’ will now be the source of information for cross-border healthcare issues.

Some of the details include:

  • The arrangements for delivering healthcare services across the England-Wales border
  • The principle that there will be no refusal or delay to treatment even if there is uncertainty or doubt as to who funds the treatment
  • Information on the system for English resident patients registered with a Welsh GP to be referred into secondary care in England.
