If we all make changes in the way we use water in our homes, businesses and industry we can help Wales continue to have a thriving water environment.

Using water responsibly can also help save you money and reduce your impact on the wider environment.

What we are doing to encourage the responsible use of water in our homes, communities, businesses and industry

We are:

  • assessing and consulting on options for encouraging reduction in water consumption
  • promoting the benefits of water efficiency
  • carrying out further investigation into the costs and benefits of metering
  • reforming the abstraction license system to help protect our water resources and environment
  • published the Welsh Government Guiding Principles for Developing Water Resources Management Plans for 2020 and beyond
  • produced information on how businesses can develop a Water Efficiency Plan (Business Wales)
  • introducing the mandatory use of sustainable drainage systems for all new developments.
