Every January, all maintained schools are required to provide us with pupil and school level data to ensure more accurate targeting of funding and to help us develop and monitor policy.

The Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC) is mandatory for all sectors including nursery, primary, middle, secondary and special.

All pupils on roll on the census date must be included in the return.

Analysis of the data from PLASC, in conjunction with pupils’ Key Stage and examination results, provides schools, LAs and central agencies with a range of information and supports the drive to raise school standards.

PLASC data also provides much of the contextual data that is used in the All Wales Core Data Sets.
