We recommend that managed moves are considered when there is a genuine belief that a fresh start would be beneficial for a pupil.

Managed moves can be beneficial when:

  • a pupil is at risk of a permanent exclusion but might do well in a different environment
  • there has been limited success in supporting a pupil with emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • a pupil’s emotional welfare is affected by attending their current school.

Our information document is split into 2 sections. Section 1 provides information on:

  • when it is appropriate to consider a managed move
  • the process, roles and responsibilities to manage the transfer and the integration process effectively.

Section 2 provides 4 separate exemplar materials that can be modified as necessary.
