GB Tourism

  • In 2015, there were 10,45 million overnight trips to Wales by GB residents.  The associated spend was £1,975 million
  • 60% of GB visitors to Wales came for a holiday, 27% to visit friends or relatives and 9% on business
  • the Great Britain Day Visits survey indicates that just under 75 million day visits are made to destinations in Wales annually with expenditure amounting to over £2.7 billion. 

International Tourism

  • Wales attracted 970,000 international visitors spending £410 million during 2015
  • the 4 top generating countries for overseas tourism to Wales were the Republic of Ireland (129,000) , France (105,000), Germany (97,000) and USA (91,000)
  • 38% of International visitors were on a holiday trip, 32% were visiting friends or relatives and 18% were on business during 2015.

VisitBritain is the national tourism agency of Great Britain. Its primary role being to promote Great Britain in international markets.One of its key activities is the delivery of national tourism insights,trends and performance research.

VisitBritain produce regular bulletins that provide information about global and UK tourism trends, along with information about the economic and demographic drivers of tourism.

As well as covering past and current trends, they also produce bulletins that forecast future tourism performance.  These detail what VisitBritain expects to happen to the volume and value of inbound tourism during the next year.
