Wales' construction industry plays a vital role in delivering a vibrant economy and a quality environment.

In Wales there are approximately 13,000 companies involved within this sector, employing Circa 112,000 people in roles ranging from traditional 'on-site' construction roles to 'professional service' roles, such as planners, architects and surveyors.

Our vision

Our vision for the sector is to enable the growth of a dynamic construction industry, where business, academia and national and local governments collaborate to deliver an economically and environmentally sustainable industry, based on innovation and extended markets and supporting economic, environmental and social well-being in Wales.

Key priorities

We will focus on the following:

  • identify blockages and influencing policy changes to improve the regulatory and legislative background.
  • as necessary, improve the sector’s understanding of Procurement Standards and best practice.
  • monitor and evaluate evolving market trends and offering evidence based and business focused advice relating to the skills agenda.
  • identify mechanisms which maximise Wales’ future return in investment on public sector spend and benefit the local economy, community and supply chain overall.
  • develop local expertise and target internationally mobile ‘medium term’ supply chain growth opportunities. For example, Nuclear and other Energy and Environmental technologies.
  • improve the UK/overseas market penetration potential of competitive/niche high value businesses via market awareness/international trade programmes.
  • work across Government to identify Sovereign Growth Funds, European Structural Funds and Venture Capital Funding to further deliver Government led projects across Wales.
  • maximise the opportunities for business emanating from a national infrastructure plan for Wales.

Our support

We work directly with businesses across the sector in Wales to encourage growth in the industry. We aim to maximise opportunities for business as a result of Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan (WIIP), developing local expertise and targeting supply chain growth opportunities. We have relationships with a wide range of businesses across our sector, including a number of key companies who are our Anchor and Regionally Important companies.
