Judith Evans

Principal, Coleg Y Cymoedd

Judith has worked in the further education (FE) sector in Wales for over 28 years. She started as a lecturer in the former Rhondda College, before going on to serve in several senior management positions. In 2008, she was appointed Principal of a multi-campus college in South Wales, Coleg Morgannwg. Then, in 2013, she was made Principal of a much larger college, Coleg y Cymoedd (the college was the result of the merger of Coleg Morgannwg with a neighbouring college, Ystrad Mynach College.

As Principal, Judith has worked closely with a range of external organisations including head teachers, community organisations, local authorities and employers across the region. Under her leadership, Coleg y Cymoedd opened a new £40 million campus at Nantgarw (2012) just outside Cardiff and a new £20 million campus in Aberdare (Sept 2017). In addition, a new railway training facility was opened at the college’s Nantgarw campus in September 2014: the first of its kind in Wales and a new motor vehicle facility at Ystrad Mynach campus.

Judith was elected Chair of Colleges Wales the representative body for all of Wales’ further education colleges and institutions, the term of office finished  in 2017. Judith is a member of the Ministerial Valleys Taskforce, an advisor for the British Council Wales and a member of the Regional Economic Growth Partnership.
