Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney
Dawn Bowden is Assembly Member for the Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney constituency. She was elected to the National Assembly in May 2016. Prior to her election Dawn worked for the public services union UNISON as a Regional Manager with responsibility for the members in the Welsh NHS.
Dawn serves on three Assembly Committees: Children, Young People and Education; Equalities, Local Government and Communities, and was recently elected as the chair of the new standing Committee on Assembly Electoral Reform and is a regular contributor to Assembly oral questions to Ministers and plenary debates.
She was appointed as a member of the Valleys Taskforce in Spring 2019 and chairs the Taskforce Transport Sub Group. Dawn is also Vice-Chair of the Assembly’s Labour Group of AMs.
Dawn regularly holds advice surgeries across her constituency, as well as hosting information events to support constituents and to signpost them to relevant local services. She is also proactive in supporting the work of local organisations, businesses and public sector bodies. She has an office on Merthyr Tydfil High Street where she has a team of staff supporting her with casework and Assembly policy.
