This report presents findings from research undertaken to consider how future support for children affected by parental imprisonment could be improved in Wales.
This is the latest release
The objectives of this research were to consider what practices exist to support children in Wales with a parent in prison, to what extent they represent good practice and what would need to be considered when looking to develop a national model of support. The research was particularly interested in the roles that schools can provide in supporting children with a parent in prison.
The findings from the research were organised around nine main themes:
- A strengths based, children’s rights approach
- Policy and resourcing
- Central access to information and resources
- Multi-agency working
- Training
- Sensitive identification of children
- Including all children
- Safeguarding
- Monitoring and evaluation
These themes should be considered as part of the development of future support on a pan-Wales basis.
