In 2017/18, more than 100,000 young people in years 7 to 11 of secondary schools across Wales took part in the Student Health and Well-being Survey.

This round incorporated the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey. The survey was administered by schools themselves and students completed the survey electronically.

The survey provides in-depth understanding of the health and wellbeing of young people, including the whole population and subgroups of the population, such as looked-after children.

The content includes:

  • general health and wellbeing
  • school life
  • family life and friendships
  • relationships
  • smoking, drinking and drug-taking
  • gambling.
