The survey is a national consumer survey measuring the volume and value of overnight trips taken by the residents of Great Britain.

During January to December 2017 there were 9.02 million overnight trips by British residents to Wales, staying a total of 30.98 million nights, generating a related expenditure of £1,628 million.

Since 2016 there have been changes to the data processing system of the Great Britain Tourism Survey. This document explains what these changes are, why they were made, how this affects the data collected as well as what implications this has when comparing data from 2016 onwards with previously published figures.

From now on, the latest quarterly figures from the Great Britain Tourism Survey, along with results from our other tourism surveys, will be published in the new Wales Tourism Performance report. This will be a more comprehensive report that combines the latest quarterly statistics from all of the main tourism surveys and aims to provide better context for the results from the individual surveys on the performance of the tourism industry. Annual reports will continue to be published on this page.
