Nominated for Business award

Penderyn Whisky started back in the 1990s when a group of friends decided to set up a distillery in an old wine warehouse in Penderyn.

The distilling process began in 2000 and the first bottle of whisky was bottled in the presence of HRH Prince of Wales in 2004.

Since then, the company has grown rapidly and Penderyn whisky is now stocked is stores such as Waitrose and Harrods and some London hotels such as the Ritz and the Savoy and exporting the product to countries as far afield as Japan and Russia.

Producing more than 330,000 bottles a year of Penderyn whisky, the company now also produces other alcoholic drinks such as Brecon Whisky, Merlyn Liqueur and Five Vodka.

Brecon Gin has also become the biggest Welsh gin brand, producing more than 300,000 bottles a year.

The distillery is also a major tourist attraction in Wales, with more than 43,000 visitors in 2019 and company plans to open 2 more distilleries and visitor centres in Swansea and North Wales in the future.
