Matthew’s House
Nominated for Critical (key) worker award
Matthew’s House is a project of The Hill Church charity based in Swansea that was established in 2016 to help the most vulnerable in our communities. They usually run 5 different expressions of Hope which help homeless and vulnerable people in the city, providing hot meals, dignity packs and laundry and shower facilities.
At the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, Matthew’s House recognised the need to support those most in need in Swansea as many organisations had to drastically curtail their services.
Matthews House led a campaign called Swansea Together, bringing more than 50 organisations together to provide provisions for the vulnerable and homeless. The campaign ran from March to August 2020 and provided hundreds of warm meals to rough sleepers and the vulnerable. Meal packs were delivered to hostels and bed & breakfasts around Swansea and once a week, toiletries were also included. In that time, 18,000 hot meals were delivered to those living in temporary accommodation. In August, Matthew’s House moved to providing a takeaway service 3 times a week from their building on Swansea’s High Street. Matthew’s House also ensured that all 7 days were covered with an emergency takeaway by other charities and groups they work alongside.
