Nominated for International award

A highly successful actor, Matthew Rhys, originally from Cardiff, has been commended for using his status to promote Wales and Welshness at home and abroad.

He is best known for roles in ‘Brothers & Sisters’, ‘The Americans’, and as Dylan Thomas in ‘The Edge of Love’. He has played many other roles and has enjoyed a varied acting career in TV, film and on stage, in Wales, the UK, the US and globally. His very successful international career has helped to boost the profile of Wales, and its screen industries, abroad.

Matthew also helps to raise Wales' profile in the US. In 2013, he performed Dylan Thomas's ‘A Child's Christmas in Wales’ at the British Consulate in New York, an event organised by the Wales International Center to begin the Dylan Thomas centenary celebrations of 2014.

Here in Wales, Matthew is an active supporter of many cultural events and institutions including Tafwyl and the National Eisteddfod, of which he is a member of the druidic order of the Gorsedd of the Bards for his contributions to the Welsh language and Wales.
