Professor Peter Ghazal OBE FMedSci Former Sêr Cymru research chair in systems medicine at Cardiff University

Professor Peter Ghazal died in April 2024, aged only 62. An internationally-respected systems immunologist, he moved to Cardiff University from his previous base in Edinburgh to take up the Sêr Cymru research chair in systems medicine. Professor Ghazal's research interests lay in understanding how host-gene networks control infection, especially with those host-pathways associated with sepsis and the immune-metabolic axis.

A leader in multidisciplinary translational research, such as linking engineering with genomics, he also had most impressive commercialisation credentials.
