The Cory Band

The Cory Band has very strong roots within the local community of Treorchy in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Their reputation for excellence has spread throughout the world through their competition successes, numerous recordings, concerts and community outreach education programmes.

In 2013 they retained the European Championship title in Oslo. They are also the 2013 Brass in Concert champions and have completed an 11 concert tour of Australia, performing to thousands of people. In March 2013, the Cory Band launched its Youth Outreach programme with the aim of recruiting new players. The Cory Academy, encourages greater engagement with schools and young people, increased participation in brass band music making, and greater collaboration between brass players and bands across the whole of Wales.

The band is dedicated to new music and has an active commissioning policy. The band’s current ‘Composer in Residence’ is Welshman Gareth Wood.
