Introduction

The Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales (the Panel) met on Tuesday 18 February. 

The aim of the meeting was to:

  • review and agree the minutes and summary of the January meeting, note the secretariat and budget updates and review and update the operational plan for 2024 to 2025
  • note the publication dates for the final annual report and legacy report
  • note the update on the transfer of data to the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru
  • review and provide any comments / observations on the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru website and communications from April 2025 onwards
  • review correspondence and provide a response to 2 local authorities

Actions, secretariat and budget updates

The Panel agreed the minutes and summary from the January meeting and noted the budget update.

The Panel reviewed and discussed correspondence received from 2 principal authorities and its proposed response and reply to each 1.

Publication date for the final annual report and legacy report

The Panel were provided with an update on the publication of the final annual report and legacy report. Both publications were to be published on 24 February 2025 and can be found here

Data transfer to the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru

The Panel were presented with progress on the transfer of all related files to the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru. This area forms part of the transition work as the functions of the Panel transfer to the Commission from 1 April 2025.

Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru: website and communications

Officials at the Commission gave overview and update on the website transition, together with proposals on how the transfer of functions to the Commission will be communicated to the public and stakeholders. The Panel agreed to communicate with its stakeholders, to explain the transition and that future communication will be with DBCC.

Any other business

The Panel considered and discussed the correspondence received from 2 principal authorities. A proposed response was provided for each item of correspondence.

Next meeting

The final meeting of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales will take place on 12 March 2025.
