4. Objectives of the scheme

The proposed subsidy will provide financial support to the fishing industry to individually procure a iVMS monitoring device. Legislation came in to force in Wales in 2022 through The Sea Fishing Operations (Monitoring Devices) (Wales) Order 2022, which makes it a requirement for all commercial fishing vessels under 12m in length, operating in the Welsh zone, or Welsh fishers wherever they may be, to have an iVMS device installed and operating when they undertake fishing activities.

Eligibility will be restricted to the owner of an under 12m registered and licensed vessel which is administered by Welsh Government.

11 October 2024 to 28 February 2028.

9. Budget for aid under the scheme

The total budget for the subsidy scheme is estimated at £240,000.

10. Form of support

All subsidy awarded under the Scheme will be awarded by way of grants.

11. Eligibility terms and conditions

Eligibility will be restricted to the owner of a registered and licensed under 12m vessel which is administered by Welsh Government.

Payments of I-VMS claims will be made on provision of invoice and proof of payment of I-VMS device and has been installed to the specified vessel and is operational. The vessel must be registered in Wales on the date of purchase. The fisher agrees to dispose of the old device as instructed by Welsh Government.

12. Basis for calculating subsidies

The subsidy amount will be restricted to £800 per registered vessel.

13. Maximum subsidy allowable under the scheme

£800 to the owner of under 12m vessel/s registered in Wales.
