It is law for there to be an Independent Adjudicator. Their job is to decide if a post should be politically restricted if there is a disagreement between the employee concerned and the council.
A politically restricted post means a person must resign from their role as a council officer if they wish to seek elected office.
About the adjudicator
Bev has more than 25 years of experience in local government, including:
- Chief executive and returning officer at both regional and local level
- Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru
She brings a depth of knowledge of both the legislative framework and the day-to-day operation of local authorities to the role of adjudicator.
Appointment
Bev was appointed to the role of the Independent Adjudicator on 1st May 2024. This appointment will continue until 31st December 2027.
