Original consultation
We want your views on The Food (Promotion and Placement) (Wales) Regulations. We are also calling for evidence on energy drink consumption in children.
Consultation description
This publication has 2 parts:
- Part 1: a consultation seeking views on the draft regulations and enforcement approach for The Food (Promotion and Placement) (Wales) Draft Regulations.
- Part 2: a call for evidence seeking evidence relating to energy drink consumption in children.
The aim of the draft regulations is to make the healthy choice the easiest choice for Welsh consumers by:
- Restricting volume price promotions of high fat, salt and sugar (HFSS) products, which can encourage overconsumption. This includes multi-buy offers (for example buy one get one free) and free refills of sugar-sweetened beverages.
- Restricting the placement of HFSS food and drink products at key selling locations, which can lead to pester power and impulse purchases of HFSS products. This includes areas such as store entrances, checkouts and aisle ends.
We are also taking this opportunity to call for evidence on the consumption of energy drinks by children. This would help us further understand the impacts, including those for wider society.
