Ellen Somers

Following a Degree in Criminology, Ellen Somers decided not to pursue a policing career and chose a new pathway that has transformed lives by providing a second chance.

Newport-based Ellen, 28, went back to education, undertaking a two-year Higher Apprenticeship with Transport for Wales (TfW) after recognising that her passion for helping others was better suited in HR. She has not only completed her Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Human Resource Management Level 5 through training provider ALS, but Ellen has created a pathway for ex-offenders and people who have ended up in the justice system with no future prospects of employment.

By assisting in updating the company’s recruitment policy, she is offering a brighter future to many that may have given up on finding a career.
