Item 1: Reform of the school year - consultation document

1.1 The Minister for Education and Welsh Language introduced the item, which asked Cabinet to approve the consultation document on the structure of the school year, which reflected the Programme for Government and Co-operation Agreement commitments.

1.2 Cabinet had considered a paper earlier in October, which outlined the principles of consulting on amending term dates so that they were more equal in length, with more evenly distributed breaks.  At that meeting, it was agreed that the final consultation document would need to be considered by Cabinet before it was published.

1.3 Cabinet approved the consultation and put on record its thanks to officials for the work in finalising the documentation.
