Research exploring a new information system for schools

This research set out to define a new education data and information ecosystem for Wales that can support the three core functions of stakeholders within the school system:

• self-evaluation and improvement of services, support, or policies across all tiers
• accountability and effective oversight at all tiers
• transparency across the system, demonstrating performance and progress to parents and carers, communities and wider stakeholders

The approach to the research throughout was iterative and adaptive, and involved regular review of emerging findings, lines of enquiry and methods, and adaptation to ensure optimal engagement of stakeholders.

The findings presented in this report draw on research from a wide range of stakeholders.

The findings focus on:

• defining the key characteristics of the existing data and information ecosystem
• mapping stakeholder data and information needs
• assessing areas where changes are needed
• characteristics and equity

The report concludes with detailed recommendations for Welsh Government to consider.
