Dear
ATISN 16216 – Anglesey Hospitality Taxation
Thank you for your request which I received on 30 March. You asked for:
- For the financial years of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, how much taxation did the Isle of Anglesey Council make from the hospitality sector in Anglesey?
Our response
Following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you seek is not held by the Welsh Government.
Local authorities are responsible for collecting local taxes (council tax and non-domestic rates). In the case of non-domestic rates, all the revenue is paid into a central rates pool which is managed by the Welsh Government. The rates revenue is distributed in full to local authorities each year to fund local public services as part of the annual local government settlements. As your request asks about how much taxation the Isle of Anglesey made from the hospitality sector, the scope has been interpreted to cover taxes collected by the local authority, and not other forms of taxation collected by other agencies.
