Dear
ATISN 15948
Thank you for your request which I received on 10 January 2022. You asked for:
The numbers of all deaths in every Welsh Hospital from 2010 to 2021.
Welsh Government does not hold the information you have requested.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) collect and produce mortality statistics for England and Wales based on information from the death registration process. However, this analysis is resident based and not hospital based, i.e. where the individual lived. Information on mortality numbers by place of occurrence and health board region of residents for years up to and including 2020 can be found on the ONS website.
Finalised data for 2021 data is not yet available but provisional figures can be found as part of the ONS weekly publication.
Please note this data is resident based, there may be instances where Welsh residents have died in England, and vice versa. For further information on this data, please contact the ONS at health.data@ons.gov.uk
If you are dissatisfied with the Welsh Government’s handling of your request, you can ask for an internal review within 40 working days of the date of this response. Requests for an internal review should be addressed to the Welsh Government’s Freedom of Information Officer at:
Information Rights Unit
Welsh Government
Cathays Park
Cardiff
CF10 3NQ
or e-mail: Freedom.ofinformation@gov.wales
Please remember to quote the ATISN reference number above.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF
Telephone: 0303 123 1113
Website: www.ico.org.uk
However, please note that the Commissioner will not normally investigate a complaint until it has been through our own internal review process.
Yours sincerely
