Wales Screening Committee: about us
The Wales Screening Committee is the national advisory forum on health screening programmes. The committee considers evidence on health screening, including recommendations from UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC).
It advises the Welsh Government and NHS Wales about:
- implementing new population screening programmes not presently provided by the NHS
- commissioning project groups to consider new screening programmes and modifications to existing programmes
- screening technologies of proven effectiveness but which need controlled and well-managed introduction
- continuing, modifying or withdrawing existing population screening programmes
- setting national priorities for screening
- generic issues relating to screening programmes, policy, quality and safety
The following national screening programmes are delivered by Public Health Wales (PHW):
- Breast Test Wales
- Bowel Screening Wales
- Cervical Screening Wales
- Diabetic Eye Screening Wales
- Newborn Bloodspot Screening Wales
- Newborn Hearing Screening Wales
- Wales Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme
PHW oversees the delivery of Antenatal Screening Wales which is delivered by local health boards.
