HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have published the number of claims made to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) up to 14 July 2021.
This update provides a snapshot of those that were furloughed as at the 30 June 2021.
Main points
- As at 30 June 2021, 68,800 employments in Wales were furloughed under the CJRS, a take up rate of 6%; the same as the take up rate across the UK.
- There was a 23% decrease in the number of furloughed employments in Wales between 31 May and 30 June 2021, and the number of furloughed employments are at the lowest level since the time series began on 1 July 2020.
- Arts, entertainment and recreation had the highest take-up rate in Wales at 22%, followed by Accommodation and food services at 17%. These take-up rates are much higher than the take-up rate for Wales as a whole.
- 32,200 females and 36,600 males in Wales were furloughed under the CJRS as at 30 June 2021.
- The take up rate of furloughed employments across local authorities in Wales ranged from 5% to 7%.

CJRS data includes those furloughed as at 30 June 2021 and for whom claims were submitted to HMRC by 14 July 2021. Figures for June are preliminary and are likely to be revised in future releases.
