I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ellen Donovan to represent Wales on the Human Tissue Authority (HTA).
Ms Donovan will take up the position on 1 April 2021 for a three year term. Ms Donovan has extensive senior experience both in private and public sector organisations at board level.
She is currently a non-executive director of the Welsh Government Board and Qualifications Wales. Previous roles include Trading Director and Operations Director at Debenhams PLC.
I attach great importance to this role and I am confident that Ms Donovan’s wealth of experience will be of great benefit to the Authority.
The appointment of the current Welsh Member, Mr William Horne, who has served on the HTA Board for almost seven years, will come to an end when Ms Donovan takes up post. I would like to pay tribute to Mr Horne for the dedication he has shown in the role and to wish him well for the future.
The HTA was set up under the provision of the Human Tissue Act 2004. It is responsible for the regulation of activities concerning the removal, storage, use and disposal of human tissue for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Act provides one of the members of the HTA to be appointed by the Welsh Government. Members of the Human Tissue Authority are paid £7,883 per annum reflecting a time commitment of two days a month.
