Graduate outcomes: August 2018 to July 2019

The Graduate Outcomes record includes a survey of graduates approximately 15 months after they complete their studies. This survey is delivered by HESA. The 2018/19 Graduate Outcomes Survey Results record is in respect of students who completed eligible programmes of study between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2019 and who actually completed the survey (or the minimum response required).

There were 380,970 graduates who responded to the Graduate Outcomes 2018/19 survey from the target population of 793,445. This equals a rate of 48% complete responses. When including partially completed responses, the response rate rises to 52% (409,380 graduate responses).

Graduates with an undergraduate degree from Welsh Universities

• 5,970 (47%) of known graduates who had studied full-time are in full-time employment and 1,405 (11%) are in part-time employment. 1,685 (13%) of known graduates are in are in full-time further study and 85 (1%) are in part-time further study.
• 820 (57%) of known graduates who had studied part-time are in full-time employment and 165 (12%) are in part-time employment. 55 (4%) known graduates are in full or part-time further study.
• Overall, Welsh universities had a lower percentage of known graduates in full-time employment (48%) and part-time employment (11%) to the UK as a whole (52% and 12% respectively).
• 1,065 (8%) graduates are unemployed, of which 240 are due to start work or further study.
• 785 (50%) known graduates from low participation neighbourhoods (POLAR4 quintile 1) were in full-time employment compared to 4,725 (49%) known graduates from other participation neighbourhoods.
• Welsh Universities had a lower percentage of graduates (around 28%) with salaries of £27,000 and over than the UK as a whole (around 34%).
• Graduates from medicine and dentistry subjects reported the highest median salaries at £35,000.

Graduates with a postgraduate degree from Welsh Universities

• 2,425 (62%) known graduates who had studied full-time are in full-time employment and 355 (9%) are in part-time employment. 225 (6%) known graduates are in are in full-time further study and 20 (less than 1%) are in part-time further study.
• 925 (59%) known graduates who had studied part-time are in full-time employment and 245 (16%) are in part-time employment. 25 (2%) known graduates are in full or part-time further study.
• Overall, Welsh universities had a lower percentage of known graduates in full-time employment (61%) but a higher percentage in part-time employment (11%) compared to the UK as a whole (65% and 9% respectively).
• 215 (4%) graduates are unemployed and 40 (less than 1%) are due to start work or further study.
• Welsh Universities had a lower percentage of graduates (around 23%) with salaries of £39,000 and over to the UK as a whole (around 25%).
