Having been involved in engineering with his father from an early age, at 16 Stephen Pickles knew he wanted to get hands-on with work, rather than remain in full-time education. He started an apprenticeship with Miskin-based Renishaw, a global engineering company, where he is in his third year and already seen as an “engineer” by his colleagues.
The 19-year-old from Llanrumney, has achieved a HNC in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering with grade distinction, and an NVQ level 3 commissioning qualification through the University of South Wales. He plans to progress to full HND and Diploma in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering.
