A desire to attract and develop employees from the surrounding area persuaded West Wales catering butchery and meat processing business Celtica Foods to develop a training academy. The Cross Hands company identified that one threat to the business was the age of its butchers; averaging 49 years, and fewer catering butchers available for recruitment. The company needed to attract younger employees and to give them a range of butchery skills.

Cambrian Training Company delivers the qualifications ranging from Foundation Apprenticeships in Meat and Poultry and Food Industry Skills to a Higher Apprenticeship in Food Manufacturing Excellence. In the last decade, 114 staff have completed NVQ Programmes.
