HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have published the number of claims made to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) and the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) up to 31 July 2020.
CJRS
- 400,800 employments in Wales have been furloughed through the CJRS scheme; this is a take up rate of 31%, the joint second lowest of all the UK countries and English regions.
- 78% of employments in Accommodation & food services and 77% of employments in Arts, entertainment, recreation and other services have been furloughed through CJRS.
SEISS
- 110,000 people in Wales have claimed a SEISS grant, which is 78% of the eligible population.
- The total value of all claims made in Wales up to 31 July is £295 million.
- Self-employed people working in construction in Wales accounted for the largest share of all claims (29%) and had one of the highest take up rates (85%).
