The most recent data in this report is for 2019Q4. The report does not cover the period of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
These are experimental statistics and the volatility of the quarterly data make interpreting short term changes difficult.
Change over the shorter term
GDP in Wales decreased by 1.0% in quarter 4 (October to December) 2019 compared with the previous quarter (July to September 2019). For the UK as a whole, GDP was unchanged.
Wales had the second largest decrease in output of the twelve UK countries and regions in quarter 4 2019.
The construction sector saw an increase of 0.4%. However, the services and production sectors saw a decrease of 1.1% and 0.9%, respectively.
Change over the longer term
Wales saw GDP decrease of 0.5% compared to the same quarter a year ago, the UK as a whole saw GDP growth of 0.9%.
There was growth in the services sector (0.5%) and a fall of 3.4% in both the construction and production sectors.
