The Welsh Government has worked with the Senedd to reprioritise government business to reflect the unprecedented nature of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. While this statement is being issued to update members, COVID-19 related Written Statements will continue to be issued as a priority.
Today, a report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), Revaluation and reform of council tax in Wales: impacts on different councils and household types, has been published. The Welsh Government has worked closely with the IFS on this report, as part of our suite of research to help inform thinking about the future of local taxation in Wales.
This research will help us to understand the possible impacts of a domestic property revaluation if one were to be carried out in Wales.
We are pleased to have collaborated with a highly respected organisation to delve deeper into the specific needs and requirements for council tax in Wales. The research is one strand of work within a broader programme of reforms to local taxation and the wider local government finance system. I published a progress update on the work programme on 5 November.
