Welsh language bill - White paper

Our proposals relate to the arrangements to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language, and make improvements to the Welsh Language Standards system.

We are consulting on proposals for a Welsh language bill which would:

• establish a Welsh Language Commission responsible for promoting the Welsh language and monitoring and enforcing compliance with Welsh Language Standards
• simplify the processes involved in making and imposing Welsh Language Standards
• remove the restrictions in the current legislation so Standards could be placed on any body, so long as it is within the Assembly’s power to do so.
