Bethany Roberts
Nominated for Young Person award
Bethany Roberts is a 17 year old student from Milford Haven who is a keen advocate for young people in Pembrokeshire and Wales.
At the age of 11, Bethany joined Milford Haven Youth club and since then has gone on to become a Youth representative on Milford Haven Town Council and Chair of the Pembrokeshire Youth Council. As part of her role on the Youth Council she has not only been the voice of young people but has helped organise many social events for older people, many of whom live in isolated communities. Bethany has also been elected Pembrokeshire UK Youth Parliament representative (MYP). The UK Youth Parliament provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their elected voice to bring about social change through meaningful representation and campaigning.
In November 2017, Bethany attended the UK Youth Parliament at Westminster where she spoke about Votes at 16 and why young people should be given the vote. She has also taken part in committee meetings at the National Assembly for Wales to ensure the voice of young people is being heard and facilitates meetings of the Youth Assembly.
Bethany is a trained Young Inspector which enables her to inspect schools, organisations and agencies against the National Participation Standard for Wales. Bethany also recently won the Young Achievers Volunteer of the Year category at the Radio Pembrokeshire Awards for her hard work and commitment to young people and children’s rights.
