The Health Minister Vaughan Gething today (Friday 29th November) has announced the extension of the NHS Wales Bursary until 2023.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
The announcement provides clarity on bursary arrangements for the next three academic years to both students and providers.
The bursary, which is no longer available in England, will be available for an additional two cohorts for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic years and will be available to nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.
Health Minister Vaughan Gething, said:
“Extending the bursary until 2023 demonstrates our commitment to training and will help us to attract more people to the NHS Wales workforce.
“Wales will offer a full package for those who commit to working in Wales for up to two years after qualifying. The extension demonstrates how much we value our healthcare workforce and will support them through their studies to create a sustainable future workforce.”
The Education Minister, Kirsty Williams, added:
“We firmly believe that access to higher education should be on the basis of the individual’s potential to benefit, and not on the basis of what they can afford to pay. The extended support we are offering to students who want to undertake health training for the NHS in Wales is a clear example of this commitment.
